What does Endermologie® do?
Endermologie® powerfully yet gently wrings and rolls the soft tissue of the body with unparalleled health and wellness benefits using an exclusive combination of suction and rollers.
What is a session like?
During an Endermologie® session, the client is clothed in an Endermologie-specific full-body suit that allows the machine the proper slide. The client is on a table and a trained practitioner administers the treatment using the Endermologie® FDA-cleared medical device. As the therapist skillfully moves and maneuvers the treatment head of the device, the vacuum and rollers lift and wring your soft tissue as they interact with the body.
How does this lead to the results you describe?
When the subcutaneous fat cells are wrung, they're freed of their trapped metabolic-waste impurities. The formerly-trapped impurities are released into the surrounding cellular fluid, processed by the lymph system and released from the body though the kidneys when the client drinks sufficient filtered water.
Why does the body change shape in addition to getting smoother?
When the fat cells are freed of retained metabolic waste they shrink back to their normal size. When many individual fat cells shrink down in size, an overall reduction in body size or change of contour occurs.
Does it hurt? What does it feel like?
No. It feels good when done properly. It feels like an invigorating, soothing, buzzy, deep-tissue massage. It's stimulating and relaxing at the same time.
Do I need to start a special diet and exercise program?
Nope. To maximize your investment, integrate healthy movement and drink a lot of filtered water. Eat delicious, healthy foods and cut out chemicalized non-foods.
How was Endermologie® invented/discovered?
It was created in France more than 30 years ago by an engineer and patient named Louis Paul Guitay for medical use to break down his own fibrous scar tissue. It was soon discovered that it also reduced cellulite and body size in its female subjects. Since then, it's been the focus of dozens of medical studies worldwide, and the results have been scrutinized, verified and re-created by even the most initially-skeptical experts.
Isn't 'endermologie' a generic term like 'massage' or 'facial'?
No. Endermologie® is a trademarked name that refers only to this specific, patented technology and technique (although some spas use generic equipment and call it endermologie, or make up a similar-sounding name (example: "dermologie"). Always confirm that you're receiving Endermologie® and that your clinic is certified, licensed and experienced.
What causes cellulite?
Cellulite results from micro-circulation impairment. It involves fluid retention, enlargement of fat cells and an alteration / shortening of connective tissue. In other words, long-term internal dehydration and stagnation. It can be reversed.
Why don't more men have cellulite?
Women are more prone to impaired lymphatic circulation and stagnation due to our hormonal fluctuations, our body fat content, and the structures of our fat cells and connective tissue, which differ from that of men.
Isn't cellulite normal?
Of course. We're supposed to look like real women, not airbrushed barbies. But just because swelling, stagnation and retention are common, they're not necessary to the level that many women have them. Our bodies are meant to have free-flowing circulation and chi. Endermologie® and healthy lifestyle tools can help return each body in the direction of its own actual, normal condition.
Will it help me get my body back after pregnancy and childbirth?
It happens all the time around here. Just wait until you're done nursing because your lymphatic system is busy with that. But you can start to drink some filtered water and go for walks with your little one(s) to get ready.
Do you work on the whole body or just my focus areas?
We spend the majority of time of your focus areas but always address the whole body to stimulate the movement of lymph. Areas treated are upper arms, back, buttocks, thighs, inner knee, calves and abdomen.
Are there any unpleasant side effects during or after?
During a session, there can be a momentary pinching sensation while the practitioner fine tunes and customizes your settings. With a seasoned therapist this is rare. After, there can occasionally be a thumbprint-sized bruise in clients who are highly bruise-prone, but again with an experienced Endermologist it's very rare. To be safe, if you have an event or vacation where you'll be showing your skin, you can stop your Endermologie® sessions a few days before.
Are there any women who aren't candidates for Endermologie®?
Pregnancy, cancer, and vascular conditions (such as varicosity and deep vein thrombosis) are contraindications. There's a comprehensive intake during your consult to confirm you're a fit.
How does it differ from similar treatments I've heard about?
Endermologie® has had the highest degree of medical peer review and is the first treatment of its kind to have cleared the the strict testing process of the FDA for cellulite reduction, body circumference reduction, lymphatic drainage and stress relief. ONLY Endermologie® has both the rolling and suction actions, which is what makes it so effective and unique.
How long before I experience the benefits?
There are health benefits and aesthetic changes. The health benefits are immediate. The health benefits turn into aesthetic changes after 4-8 sessions and increase with every session until you are done, usually after 19-24 treatments, on average.
How often do I need to come?
For aesthetic results, 1-3 times per week is the most economical for the initial series, followed by one session per month, ongoingly.
For health-only goals you can come anytime - the benefits are immediate. For example, during a cleanse, some clients like to come every single day.
How long is a session?
Endermologie® treatments include 35 minutes of treatment time with 5 minutes at each end for changing. Beware of clinics advertising 45-minute or even 60-minute "appointments". Always make sure to ask how long the treatment is, not just the appointment.
Are all LPG Endermologie® machines the same?
No. There are several generations of machines. All LPG machines of any generation will perform the exclusive, patented suction with rolling action that is FDA-approved and has been used worldwide to help clients achieve their health and beauty goals. Newer generations perform suction and rolling plus special variations on that theme that take into account recent innovations. According to LPG, newer machines bring results more quickly. More recent generations are also quieter and therefore can be more relaxing for some.
Which generation of machines do you use at the Bodywork Studio?
We use previous generation machines that perform the original suction and rolling actions. A very informal and personal analogy we like to make is the old machines are like the Volvo wagons from the 90's that still populate the road. They have a long life, inspire loyalty in their owners, are dependable workhorses, are a bit louder than other cars on the road, and tend to have a more "mechanical" and less "digital" vibe to them.
What is the late-cancellation or no-show policy?
At The Bodywork Studio, there's a 36-hour cancellation-or-change-policy. Any missed or late-cancelled apppointments will result in a charge for the price of a session. However, if you do need to late-cancel, let us know and we'll try to rebook it. If we do, there's no fee. We do our best to rebook any late-cancellations or changes, however if we're unable to rebook an appointment on a late-cancellation or change, the session fee will apply.
If I am running late and you don't have another appointment booked right after, I can still get my full session, right?
You always get a 5-minute grace period at the beginning of every session, no matter what. When you book an appointment at the time that you choose, you're paying for a block of your practitioner's time, so sessions do end at the end time of your scheduled appointment. In the unlikely and rare event that your session starts a couple of minutes late, you will of course always get your full session time.
Why do I need to keep coming for maintenance?
You would not expect to get a series of facials over a few months and then be done forever. Once you make the initial investment, the required maintenance is minimal and serves to prevent the initial condition from returning. In our studies, clients continue to improve with maintenance, too.
How many treatments should I receive?
20-24 seems to be the range when most clients plateau. If the stagnated condition was present for many years, or the client isn't drinking water during her initial series, she may desire a few more than that before switching into maintenance mode.
How long will the results last?
The results last 3-5 years with a monthly-maintenance session combined with sufficient water intake and a healthy lifestyle. After that, a client can return for another series to get back to her plateau. Many clients return for a mini-series of sessions once a year anyway, usually before a vacation, after the holidays, or just before the summer.
What are some things a client can do at home for the best results?
Give up those cases of little water bottles. Instead, install a water filter and invest in reusable water bottles you like to carry. Do mild lymphatic exercise a few times a week (walking, yoga, swimming and rebounding on a mini trampoline are best). Eat delicious, satisfying foods that are free of chemicals. Eat good fats and oils and eliminate questionable ones, especially those hidden in packaged foods. Eliminate chemical sweeteners completely. Remove artificial ingredients from your environment to give your lymphatic system a break. This includes cleaning (especially laundry) products and body care products.
